Business Product Manager - Redfin PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Business Product Manager; Seattle

A business product manager is a business-owner within Redfin, without the responsibility of hiring and firing real estate agents.

In this case, the product you're managing is our $20-million, game-changing home-buying service. And managing means deciding what it is and what it isn't, how it's priced and how the online experience works, from developing the first promotion a consumer sees on Redfin's site to deciding whether our agents deliver the keys in person. We expect to develop different home-buying services for different customers, so you have to be creative.

If you're a technical person looking to develop into an exec, this is the right next step: the job entails grunt work but also the ability to function as an executive with customers, real estate agents and software engineers. You'll have wide rein to be entrepreneurial, judged by simple customer-satisfaction and profit metrics.

Who are you? Someone with a shop-keeper's beady eye for what customers want, the pragmatism to figure out how we deliver it, and the web savvy to perfect the online shopping experience. You'll set business requirements that program managers turn into detailed specifications. You'll define service-level agreements upheld by local market managers and real estate agents.

You did well in school, with a few years of history building and launching a successful new product since then. Plus, you're handy with Excel. Your responsibilities:

  • Customer Research: use surveys, focus groups, usability tests and secret-shopping – as well as your own instincts -- to hit the mass market and delight our customers.
  • Policy: decide what's in and out of an offering, understand how customers think about the tradeoffs, what we can expect agents to do consistently, and how we price it to make a profit.
  • Conversion: run the promotions on Redfin.com for our home-buying service. Set the business requirements for online pathways to become a home-buying customer, including the tools for choosing an agent, scheduling tours and drafting an offer. Measure, test and iterate quickly.
  • Events: develop materials for home-buying classes and other events for marketing our service.
  • Competitive intelligence: know the competition's tactics and share, market by market, and keep us on the offensive.

Redfin is an equal opportunity employer. To apply send a resume and a brief note to marketing.jobs@redfin.com. In your note please send us two to three ideas about how you'd improve Redfin's site or service. Use the words "Product Manager" in the subject line of the email.
