Overview:

Amazon.com is looking for a motivated leader with strong analytical skills, project management experience and technology understanding to join the US Retail Books team.  You will be a part of the In-stock team which oversees inventory management and the product catalog for the largest product line at Amazon.com.  In this role you will help Amazon to build, manage and optimize the data that informs our website as well as the many internal systems that drive buying, pricing and other key business decisions.

 

The successful Product Manager (PM) will organize and deliver cross-functional projects with particular focus on improving our catalog systems and data quality.  The focus will be working with our centralized systems team to extend the software to support the objectives of the Books business.  The PM will develop a technical understanding of these systems as well as have a deep business understanding.  The Product Manager will create business requirements for projects improving our product catalog and buying systems.  He/She should be able to credibly coordinate between teams of technical resources and business stakeholders and have a thorough command of the technology/processes that will be utilized in achieving project objectives. They will anticipate risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus external constraints.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities through data analysis and provide business justification for projects and priorities
  • Manage the delivery of multiple cross-functional projects on time and on budget
  • Author functional specifications, detailed project plans, and implementation plans
  • Provide status reporting on project milestones and deliverables, while escalating as appropriate
  • Provide post-launch follow up to assure business objectives have been met
  • Manage and provide ongoing operational oversight for new and existing processes

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills.  Ability to work with large, complex data sets and familiarity with statistics or other analytical techniques.
  • A record of successful delivery of complex enterprise-scale projects as both an individual and a leader
  • Ability to achieve results given competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess excellent business judgment, strong written and oral communication skills, and a practical, common sense approach to getting things done.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required.  The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Business, Engineering or a Supply Chain/Operations discipline.
