Position Summary
The Product Manager is the business owner for a product or solution suite and is responsible for driving the product strategy and direction to ensure the company delivers the right product, at the right time to maximize revenue, market adoption, customer satisfaction, and lower support costs. PMs must be the market experts listening to customer’ needs and analyzing market dynamics to actively prioritize and set product direction. PMs manage the complete product life cycle from definition and introduction to end- of-life. They must work collaboratively, driving strategic agreement within the organization, and have the ability to communicate effectively to both internal and external audiences. This is a key strategic position within F5 Networks focusing on virtualization strategies. PMs must develop a careful balance of future vision, near term opportunities, customer requirements, business savvy and management of day-to-day product issues. The ability to identify the questions as well as the answers is critical. The customer set varies from R&D to other marketing functions, executives, channel, end users and business partners. The position is very dynamic and the individual must be comfortable with frequent multi-tasking between technical, business, strategic, marketing and planning activities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
- Responsible for market analysis and requirements for directing the product strategy and roadmaps for virtualization initiatives.
- Develop pricing and packaging for ensuring optimal market adoption
- Determine effective positioning to correctly target the product in the market and shorten the time of sale for maximum sales effectiveness
- Create Market Requirement Documents for product direction based on market inputs (customer calls/visits, partners, trends, field feedback, services, win/loss analysis, competitive analysis and other market opportunities)
- Understand market dynamics and create successful product roadmaps and product positioning
- Influences senior levels
- Lead product launches and be primary contributor to positioning, packaging, pricing, place, and promotion strategies
- Develop product and competitive positioning, financial return on investment
- Work with engineering, services and sales to drive product direction for F5’s products
- Lead strategy and product offerings for F5’s product lines including new products definitions and business cases
- Act as one of the key evangelists for F5 and the F5 product / solution set
- Works independently or leads others on projects
- Creates methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
BA/BS degree in related field required, MBA a plus
5+ years experience in product marketing, direct marketing, or marketing program management.
3+ years analyzing products, customers and market dynamics
Thorough understanding of the networking market space (including routing, switching, application availability, application acceleration, security, etc)
Thorough understanding of the virtualization market space, technologies, and architectures (including VMWare, Xen, Hyper-V, KVM)
Strong customer orientation with the ability to listen, organize and champion key initiatives and projects for product development
Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to articulate complex technology simply
Flexible, self motivated, team player
Excellent leadership, negotiation & persuasion skills
Experience in L4-L7 market space and/or working with various application networking technologies is strongly desired - Load balancing, GSLB, SSL, HTTP, HTTPS, XML, Caching, Application Acceleration, Compression, etc
Requires an understanding of enterprises and n-tier applications and architectures
Broad knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, DNS, LDAP, Radius etc)
Knowledge about web applications and emerging SOA architecture is a plus
Significant knowledge of competitive landscape of industry
