Position Summary

The Product Management Engineer (PME) is the technical resource within the Product Management organization responsible for competitive analysis as well as solution testing and documentation. PMEs are expected to have complete product knowledge (both F5 and competitive), technical sales ability, and expert level (in-depth) networking engineering knowledge (including design and troubleshooting). The team focuses on determining integration and interoperability of F5 solution s with leading applications and new technologies. PMEs are the technical interface between the Product Management organization and all other company departments.




Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, performing and validating tests of F5 products, alliance partner applications and competitive products to create detailed and accurate documentation with reproducible results
  • Coordinating design and conducting new product introduction demos
  • Handling technical issues of any degree of complexity with minimal need for supervision or assistance
  • Provide product and market analysis to product management
  • Participate in the overall product strategy as well as assist in the creation of sales materials focusing on competitive advantages and application solutions
  • Responsible for product review and certifications, sales presentations and training and technical partner support
  • Training F5 staff/partners on solutions
  • Coordinate the creation of testing methodologies for various application installations
  • Automating tests as much as possible
  • Work closely with other team members to maximize re-use of existing tests, equipment, and resources
  • Work closely with other Product Management Engineers to tune and optimize the application instance
  • Assembly of Data and Presentation of test results to the team
  • Responsible for product review and certifications, sales presentations, training and technical partner support
  • Coordinate the design and conduct tests which will characterize the baseline performance as well as the improvement performance after F5 technologies are deployed
  • Tests the performance of a variety of third party applications when deployed in conjunction with F5 products
  • Full ownership of assigned projects throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

  • 8+ years relevant work experience required
  • Undergraduate Computer Science Degree or equivalent work experience recommended.
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Technical sales experience preferred
  • Strong industry background including past experience with one or more of the following: load balancing, application layer firewalls, SSL VPNs, web acceleration, or WAN acceleration.
  • Expert knowledge in Network Engineering
  • Expert Knowledge of underlying web technologies including HTTP, HTML and JavaScript knowledge of TCP/IP networking and layer 7 protocols
  • Knowledge of networking products such as routers, firewalls, Windows and/or Linux/UNIX server
  • C/C++ experience a plus
  • Conveys thoughts clearly in both written and verbal communications
  • Demonstrable appreciation for user experience
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing 40 pounds frequently
  • Physical ability to cable network devices and equipment
  • Flexible hours based on a milestone driven test/product development cycle
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills required – both oral and written, with the ability to articulate and educate others about complex technology simply
  • Ability to rapidly pick up new technologies
  • Fluent in various scripting languages for test automation
  • Experience with various performance tools associated with stress testing a plus


Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 10% of the time spent traveling.
