This is an opportunity to join the Windows Live Essentials Product Management team - one of the most dynamic and strategic teams at Microsoft that’s also working on improving positive perception of the Windows brand and acquiring new users for our Online Services businesses. Windows Live is a free set of communication and sharing tools - email, instant messaging, photo-sharing, social networking, online storage, and more - designed to help consumers keep their lives in sync. Windows Live Essentials is a set of programs for PCs that help complete the Windows experience for consumers - delivering a richer experience for managing and sharing photos, making movies, managing email, IM and more.
As a Senior Product Manager, you would be part of a highly motivated team of professionals charged with shaping the foundational long-term strategy for how Windows Live Essentials helps to drive the Windows business and enhance our communications and sharing portfolio. You are part of an immediate and extended leadership team that reaches to the highest levels of the company and will be seen as a key contributor to shaping’s Microsoft’s long-term share and perception position in the consumer space.
Impact and opportunity There is not an industry on the planet that is evolving faster than consumer online services or that can have as much impact on the future of Windows.
Our established competitors are large and formidable. New competition and industry dynamics sprout up daily. The lines around desktop and web are blurring for consumers, but the things they want to do on their PC are still clear: email, photos/video, IM. We have a great asset with Windows Live Essentials for addressing these challenges and opportunities.
Messenger is a flagship service within the suite with over 350 million users worldwide and number one position in many countries. Windows Live Mail is the best consumer mail client for Windows 7, giving consumers a free version of Outlook tailored to their needs. Photo Gallery is loved and lauded by consumers and photography bloggers alike and is poised to release some incredible enhancements in the near future.
And the newly released Movie Maker is quickly catching on as an incredibly simple way to make polished movies in minutes. Over the past months we have seen huge growth in the attach of Windows Live Essentials to Windows 7 PCs, we’re ready to build on that success and ensure that the primary Essentials applications are used, loved, and considered best of breed.

Core Responsibilities Include: -You will be in the middle of driving our long term strategy to gain share, grow engagement and drive our business model
-You will help define and analyze the key performance indicators for our business success, evaluate the business and competitive landscape, understand customer needs and value drivers, and craft high impact growth strategies that need to be clearly articulated and understood at the highest levels of the company -You will be responsible for developing insights and driving the continuing evolution of our Windows Live Essentials business -You will drive business priorities and strategy across teams including engineering, marketing, our field and senior executives to drive a coherent and unified business execution that is informed by industry trends and balances competing priorities -You would need to deeply understand our business key performance indicators and measurements and work to drive a consistent view and reporting of the business that has organizational influence and buy-in -You will be an internal and external spokesperson who builds an effective strategy for influence with a compelling narrative that is used to drive regular engagement with customers, influentials and key partners
Qualifications This is a senior marketing role with a focus on strong product management, business leadership and technology aptitude. The candidate should have strategic marketing and leadership capabilities coupled with a strong business aptitude that will enable you to build credibility with both cross-functional teams and senior leadership. Building collaborative relationships across the organization, motivating and leading that organization and your immediate team to achieve market impact will be essential. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-started. A BS/A with 6+ years of experience in a related field is required. An MBA, experience in general management (or strategy) consulting and past technology experience is preferred.
