The Marketplace and Developer Experience Product Management Team, in Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business (MCB), is looking to hire a Director of Product Management to lead a team responsible for the product management and marketing for the future Windows Phone developer platform to a worldwide developer audience.
This is a unique leadership opportunity to drive a global launch of a new developer proposition for writing applications and games for the next generation of Windows Phone.
Your key responsibilities as a Director will be to:
1) Develop, validate and communicate the value proposition, competitive positioning, and sales and evangelism content and tools for the Windows Phone developer platform and tools. 2) Build and execute scalable successful developer product launch plans, programs, events, offers, and tools that encourage consideration and drive adoption of the Windows Phone platform in partnership with internal developer-facing engineering, partner engagement, evangelism, field sales teams and senior Microsoft and partner executives. 3) Define and measure developer campaign, programs and offers, in partnership with other Microsoft groups and external companies that are easily and cost-effectively adopted and scaled on a global basis. Build new and enhance existing measures of developer sentiment, preference, and adoption. 4) Acquire and incorporate a deep qualitative and quantitative understanding of both professional and non-professional developer needs and motivations by segment that inform and improve breadth and segment-specific campaigns and content. 5) Develop the marketing strategy, and create and drive the programs and relationships with top and innovative ISVs, designers and developer partners to secure the development and distribution of high impact applications and games. 6) Build, launch and sustain creative breakthrough social media outreach and community-building efforts, in partnership with external and Microsoft influencers that energize and help educate the broad developer community. 7) Dynamically represent Microsoft and the Windows Phone platform at public events and speaking opportunities, with press and industry analysts, with the developer community via social media. 8) Define and effectively advocate developer features, capabilities, tools and process requirements to affiliated partner product and operations teams that improve the developer’s technical and commercial experience and platform competitiveness. 9) Achieve key performance indicator metrics and drive partner accountability to achieve Windows Phone developer awareness, preference and adoption goals. 10) Lead, manage and enhance the overall performance and impact of a team of senior product managers
As a qualified candidate you will have to be able to demonstrate:
1) A keen empathy and clear passion for developers and developer platform technology and tools. 2) Exceptional people management, vendor management and recruiting skills to attract, retain and leverage the full potential of very person on your team. 3) Very strong, proven and high stakes cross-group collaboration and launch/marketing project management skills 4) Deep technical software product knowledge and education coupled with a deep personal or vocational understanding of the developer audience. 5) End-to-end professional marketing experience (7+ years) in a senior leadership capacity of successfully defining and executing developer evangelism and marketing campaigns, events and promotions. 6) Proven ability to build, document, implement and measure progress against integrated marketing plans 7) Substantial experience in effectively partnering with, supporting and equipping a sizeable globally-scoped sales and field marketing organizations to land marketing strategies and achieve sales goals. 8) Strong communication skills: you should be a clear, concise and direct communicator (written & verbally), with the ability to actively listen and effectively articulate your point of view and successfully influence and collaborate with others.
This is a totally unique opportunity for an experienced, entrepreneurial and technically passionate product management leader to own, launch and manage the articulation and adoption of the future Windows Phone developer proposition.
Professional Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have an MBA, a CS/EE undergraduate and at least 8-12 years of high impact senior management experience in product management/marketing in sector-leading organizations whose success depends upon developer platform adoption with a proven track record of formulating and driving marketing strategy, business management, and field sales execution campaigns through multiple channels and global geographies.
