Senior PRODUCT MANAGER - Mobile Computing

Position Purpose
As a Senior PRODUCT MANAGER in the Broadband Products & Services team, you will be responsible for the growing T-Mobile webConnect portfolio of Mobile Computing Devices. T-Mobile webConnect is T-Mobile’s Mobile Broadband Business, currently comprised of the webConnect usb Laptop Stick and webConnect Jet usb Laptop Stick. Mobile Broadband is a relatively new business for T-Mobile and is widely recognized within the company as a major growth opportunity as T-Mobile upgrades its network to HSPA+.
This is a ground floor opportunity to lead T-Mobile’s entrance into one of the fastest growing areas of the mobile telecommunications industry – embedded high speed wireless connectivity. Your responsibilities will span the product life cycle, including identifying customer needs and industry trends, specifying product requirements, working with ecosystem partners to identify candidate devices, device selection, go to market, assisting the sales team with channel development, and defining and measuring key business performance indicators. You will define the business strategy and be deeply involved in T-Mobile’s development and launch of next generation of high-speed wireless services. You will work with a cross-functional team with key stakeholders including marketing, business development, legal, customer care, IT, and engineering to oversee the ongoing success of this product line.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define and execute business and product strategy for T-Mobile webConnect portfolio of Mobile Computing Devices. Analyze industry and competitive trends and define offerings.
- As business owner, manage Mobile Computing Device product lifecyle. Determine product roadmap, work with OEMs to identify candidate devices, determine device requirements, and manage go to market process. Work with post-launch support team to identify opportunities for improvement. Investigate innovative business and go to market models and document go to market processes for OEMs.
- Work with embedded module manufaturers to align their roadmaps with T-Mobile network plans and requirements.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Engineering and other stakeholders on rigorous analyses of customer needs, definition, and evangelism of customer/partner/market requirements with a focus on the business and customers.
- As a key member of the webConnect product team, coordinate with other Senior PRODUCT MANAGERs to align Mobile Computing Device roadmap with the roadmaps for other Mobile Broadband products, webConnect Manager, the network, rate plan, and systems roadmaps.
- Provide analyses, identification and strategy regarding new product and service integration in close coordination with other Product Development groups.
- Work with PD Business Development to idenfity and manage key partners and vendors and develop strong, ongoing business relationships.
- Act as an evangelist for laptop and netbook mobility business, internally and externally.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Investigate emerging computing form factors and customer trends and forecast market opportunities.
§ Investigate and bring to market unique mobile computing services.
§ Maintain technical and product management skills and expertise through continuing education and training.

§ Collaborate/Partner with other teams including Enterprise Testing, Release Planning and Management, Business Systems Analysis, Project Management, and Application Support on successful delivery of systems enhancements.

Position Requirements
Functional/Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership experience, particularly in cross-functional, matrixed environments. Ability to successfully drive change through influence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing computer hardware or software development highly desirable.
- Understanding of wireless data technologies and previous experience with mobile data solutions/products a plus.
- Vendor management and negotiating experience a plus.
- Desire to work in a highly collaborative, entrepreneurial fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrated fiscal responsibility.
Experience:
- Deep experience in engineering, product management, product planning and/or product marketing, with a demonstrated track record of success and increasing levels responsibility over time.
- At least two years experience working at or with a leading computer or mobile device manufacturer highly desirable.
- Experience in the wireless industry a plus.
- Individual accountability for a product P&L a plus.
- Successful track record of meeting specific business objectives and performance metrics, leading change, and success within cross-functional and entrepreneurial environments.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Discretion & Independent Judgment
- Must be able to decisively weigh benefits and risks leading to solid short term and long-term decisions, investments, etc., for the business and product line portfolio.
- Must be able to comparatively assess competitive offerings vs. T-Mobile and determine offerings that will differentiate T-Mobile.
- Being a relatively new product line and business for T-Mobile, this position requires candidates who demonstrate individual, unique approaches to situations that have not been addressed before.
- Must be able to take a mature and realistic approach to setting expectations internally and externally while the product line is being developed and launched.
Education/Vocational Training:
§ Bachelor's degree in a related field required and MBA, or related Masters in a technical field, a plus
