Product Manager - Compete
Speech software and services are one of the fastest evolving segments of the industry today, driven by advancements in natural human interfaces that are gaining mindshare and adoption as speech technology becomes more accurate and useful.
The Speech at Microsoft Group is looking for a dynamic and experienced product manager to help us win against our key competitors. The Compete Product Manager will play a major role in driving product strategy and execution on one of the group’s most strategic business areas. The ideal candidate for this position will have prior understanding of the IVR and Mobile Speech markets and a solid track record of success as a product manager defining market winning products.
This person will be responsible for: Competitor Knowledge - Analysis of public information on competitors financials, product strategy, M&A, market share, news coverage and wins/losses. Compete Strategy - Lead development of content for regular exec level presentations on competitors. Compete Readiness - Development of key content to educate field on competitive products, pricing and value proposition. Field Escalations - Actively support field teams in competitive situations. Input to future product plans - By becoming the expert on what competitors are doing in the marketplace, this person will have a key role in helping to shape future product plans and direction. Leading and participating in cross-functional teams to develop product, marketing, and partnership strategies. Working with customers, sales teams, and services teams to identify key business use cases and drive enhancements and requirements into the product development process. Acting as voice of the customer within the organization. Defining and communicating solution value, differentiation and key marketing messages. Evangelizing the solution with customers, sales team members, partners, analysts, and media.
Successful candidates will have skills and experience including:
6+ years of experience in the IVR and Mobility space including the understanding of underlying technologies such as VoIP, speech recognition, VoiceXML, XML, CTI, and/or telecommunications networking. 4+ years of experience in Product Management. Strong understanding of service oriented technologies and online based-technologies. Demonstrated excellent analytical decision making skills and willingness to take on big challenges and solve complex problems. Ability to make sound decisions with little information in an ambiguous environment. Familiarity with standard market research methodologies and experience utilizing foundation market research. Deep passion for products and a track record to define market winning products and/or product strategy. Strong written and oral communications skills to present frequently at the executive-level. BS/BA required, MBA preferred. Technical background preferred.
