Senior Director, Product Management and Marketing
The Speech at Microsoft Group is looking for a senior leader with strong vision and outstanding leadership skills to lead product management and outbound marketing in the speech software and services domain. This is a unique high-profile role that will interact with executive leadership across Microsoft, and product development, marketing, and sales leaders of one of Microsoft’s emerging and most exciting initiatives - powering Microsoft’s Tellme IVR/Directory Assistance, Exchange Enterprise Edition, Bing, and Windows PCs and Phones. Speech software and services are one of the fastest evolving segments of the industry today, driven by advancements in natural user interfaces that are gaining mindshare and adoption as speech technology becomes more accurate and useful - especially in UC, search and entertainment domains.
The Senior Director of Product Management and Marketing has two main areas of responsibility: Leadership of Product Management which includes both ownership of the value proposition and collaboration with engineering and design teams around product management for speech platform and products. Leadership of Outbound Marketing which includes growing market awareness of speech based solutions and then taking them to market. This position requires extensive cross-group leadership and influence skills, strong business and thought leadership, ability to drive process and structure, creativity and the ability to think out of the box, and the ability to lead comprehensive business reviews to the most senior levels of the company. S/he will be a trusted partner for engineering, design, sales, subsidiary marketing groups, strategic partners, and other leaders. S/he must thrive in an extremely dynamic, entrepreneurial environment to drive results across multiple functional areas.
Primary Responsibilities 1. Build and lead a team of senior product management and marketing professionals 2. Lead product planning, including market opportunity analysis, market requirements, segmentation, scenario development, competitive analysis in close partnership with engineering and other stakeholders (ensuing strong roadmaps for leadership in speech and related application/business areas. 3. Lead outbound marketing including development of GTM plans including creative uses of collateral, field enablement, advertising, events, direct mail, Web 2.0 (social networks, blogs, etc..) and Microsoft sales & marketing engines. 4. As a member of the leadership group, lead the long-range planning process, including working with cross-group teams to formulate and represent our 3 year platform vision, strategy. 5. Lead the development of business plans, product strategy and product-line level revenue execution (incl. business models, investment plans, product positioning, branding, packaging, market requirements, etc.). 6. Partner with SMSG in developing, executing on marketing, sales, communications plans. 7. Lead the management of business performance on an ongoing basis, conducting analysis to understand drivers of business performance and working across relevant stakeholders to improve business performance .
Key success factors: Minimum of 6 years of software product management experience (3-5 years inside Microsoft) Minimum of 6 years of software outbound marketing experience (3-5 years inside Microsoft) 8-10 years of people management experience - track record of building, coaching, and leading teams to peak performance (especially multi-location, culturally diverse groups) Strong understanding of the operations of and proven successful ability to partner with Microsoft’s subsidiary field sales, marketing (enterprise-must, consumer- a plus), services, and channel. Strong understanding of service oriented technologies and online-based technologies Demonstrated excellent analytical, decision-making skills and willingness to take on big challenges and solve complex problems Ability to make strategically-sound decisions with little information in an ambiguous environment, and be able to influence change and drive process and structure Familiarity with standard market research methodologies and experience managing foundation market research through actionable implementation of results in messaging deliverables Strong internal/external communication, collaboration, presentation and negotiation skills Executive presence and maturity BS/BA required, MBA preferred
